Thank you for sharing group 4! Very well done. I have to say that I appreciate your opening reflections. Since you are a group of two you had to to rely on individual work and trust the other person was going to carry their weight. If one of you dropped the ball there was not a group to pick it up. Your individual and joint reflections were well written and thoughtful. Additionally, I enjoyed your course plan. The focus on physical learning and how a course can apply those aspects was apparent. I totally agree, self-reflection is very important. The explanation of our syllabus design was stunning. I could follow along and the built in freedom to submit assignments in the format best for this is a great idea and using accessible resources or learning cuts anxiety and cost of course. You made a comment about how syllabus can impact the work you do not. That is very exciting. I think, when we hear the word syllabus we think of academic based course in a school setting. If there is an opportunity to lean that is a place for a syllabus plan. Great work! Warmly, Andrea
Well done video! I like how you included each of your individual reflections, as it makes sense given that everyone is unique and may have different thoughts. I especially liked how Anthony's reflection included the discussion posts as being an opportunity for networking with one another. This didn't really cross my mind, but it makes absolute sense considering that some of us may also be studying for similar professional fields.
I also liked how this group included TEDTalks. I think sometimes there is a question of "Is this resource academic enough?", but TEDTalks not only have value, but are entertaining in ways that sometimes more academic resources just aren't.
Anthony and Patti, Wow! You did a wonderful job in your final showcase. I appreciated the flow of your Vimeo video. The progression from reflection to implementation all the way to the lessons learned was great. For the reflection part, I whole heartedly agree with your thoughts. In particular, the suggestion for weekly or regular meetings via a video-platform is so crucial to the collaborative process of the group projects. I also agree that the way the discussions assignments were laid out in terms of not only readings but videos and voice-over PPTs was really a wonderful way to expand learning and comprehension. (It appeals to all learners with different learning styles!) I know our group really found the examples of previous students’ projects to be incredibly helpful as well. In viewing your implementation section, I found many great points! I appreciate that you chose physical learning as the actual subject matter of your course/syllabus. I am sure it really helped you to get a much deeper and better understanding of the topic yourself. Afterall, it’s one thing to learn something, but to teach others about it requires a completely different depth of consideration and knowledge. Your idea to embed reflection from the beginning to the end of the course is definitely a key to success. I think my favorite part of your syllabus design was the “collection of resources” which will enable your students to not only have resources on hand, but also arms them with the knowledge on how to find more in the future. This really prepares them to put what they have learned into real-life practice. Lastly, I agree with all the comments in your “lessons learned” section. I appreciate the insight you shared. Thank you! This was a pleasure to learn about. Good luck on whatever comes next for you both!
Patti and Anthony your final showcase project is very thorough. Venmo is a good tool for video presentation. I know it was only two of you but I like how you were able to collaborate and include each reflection on your project. Being able to implement this effectively is key. I like how you were able to implement physical learning into the syllabus.
I agree with you that the discussions and course materials helped to fill in gaps in knowledge. I found that during this course, there was some material that was brand new to me and other material that was familiar to me that I did not know as much about as I would have liked. Specifically regarding learning styles (the subject of our group's project), I learned about new learning style models and also learned more detail about models I was already familiar with.
I also found that the creation of the syllabus really helped me to fully understand the concepts and how to apply them in practice. The syllabus assignment forced me to think about all the different ways that I can formulate a lesson to accommodate different learning styles. This will certainly be great practice for the future.
I also learned how to take conceptual theories and put them into practice through the syllabus creation. I also felt I learned how to do this well with others. Do you believe that you also learned how you could apply these concepts to other syllabi? In other words, looking back on the assignment now, do you see how you could apply the concepts to your own work? I definitely see how I can practically use the learning style theories in my work teaching math. In particular, I am interested in how you both think you could apply the theories of physical learning to a more traditional classroom environment, rather than a more traditional physical learning environment such as a sport.
